|10:17 am - It's a girl.|
Baby is here, we're both fine.
Rowan Mae was born at 1:09 p.m. Thursday, August 6th. We labored at home until about 3:30 a.m. Thursday morning, when we decided to transfer to the hospital for a couple of reasons, the main one being that baby was not descending. Arrived at the hospital, got an epidural and then a nap, and then baby had descended and was ready to be born. Stubborn little bugger.
She weighed 7 lbs. 10 oz. and is 19.5 inches long. She has long, skinny feet and hands, long fingernails, and a full head of dark hair. She's absolutely beautiful and Bear is in charge of getting pictures online ASAP. She's nursing well, though she prefers the left side.
We got home from the hospital this morning, about five hours before the standard 48-hour discharge. Would have been sooner, but we were waiting on 24-hour cultures on baby's blood, and the blood didn't arrive at the lab till 15 hours after Rowan was born. :p
Now, since baby is napping in a sling on her daddy, I'm going to take a nap.
Yay! Congratulations! Happy Babymoon!
I've been checking here all the time to see an update : )
Welcome to the world little Rowan!!

Ohhh a girl, how lovely and wonderful -- and I adore the name!
I'm really sorry your homebirth ended in a transfer, although it sounds like you had good reason to and it wasn't an emergency. I hope when you're rested and feel like talking about it, you will. I'm glad you and she are healthy and can't wait to see pics, etc. Congratulations to all three of you!
Long story short, I was in transition for about 12 hours with no cervical change (from 7-8 cm) and with baby not descending to open my cervix the rest of the way. We still don't know why.

That makes sense that you would need some rest and relief. Transition is absolute hell. Sounds like you did what you needed to. I hope YOU feel good about it. I can't wait to see pics of your little girl. I'm so happy for you guys and hope things are going ok during the rocky first week.
glad to hear that you are home and well with your little girl!
And a beautiful name :-)
What was the boys name you had picked out?
You should look into cranial sacral therapy for Rowan's nursing, even just one session, or even if you just know someone who can half-assedly do some. I know it's pretty common for newborns to get a crick in their neck during the birth and have trouble nursing on one side. Kallisti wouldn't nurse at all on one of my sides until my midwife told us about cranial sacral and did a little on her and showed Mark how to do it again. It helped immediately!
Anxiously awaiting pictures!
Since we got home, Rowan is nursing fine on both sides. Hopefully whatever it is has worked itself out.
The boy's name was Robert Royce. If we have a boy someday, we'll still use it.
Hmmm, a thing for Rs! :-)
Congrats!! Gorgeous name. I'm so glad all of you are doing well! I'v been thinking about you and checking FB! Can't wait to see pics.
Wonderful! I'm so happy to hear that baby has arrived, safe and sound. Have a lovely babymoon :-)
Aww, Congratulations sweetie! That's also one of my favorite names ever.
Ohhhhhhhhh, how lovely! I'm so proud of you three for such a lovely journey to Family. A blessed Babymoon to you all!
